Abstract

936,958. Compressor moulds for kerbstones. CROFT GRANITE BRICK & CONCRETE CO. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1961 [Oct. 12, 1960], No. 35012/60. Class 87(2). A compression mould for arcuate members e.g. radiused concrete kerbing stones comprises a housing containing a cavity formed by mould plates with the space between the mould and the housing filled with compression resistant filling e.g. concrete. The cavity 10 is formed by arcuate plates 5, 6 corresponding to the radii of curvature of inner and outer kerbstone faces respectively with the plate 6 having an inclined portion 7 for the bevelled top edge, end plates 8 and 9, flat bottom die 13 seating on straps 14 which extend between plates 5 and 6, and top die press 15 which applies the compression to the material within the cavity 10. A layer of metal gauze covered with a layer of strong paper on the cavity side lies between each of the bottom and top dies 13 and 15 and the moulding concrete to allow the passage of water pressed therefrom. The plates 5, 6 and 8, 9 are comparatively thin i.e. # inch but are held firmly in place during the pressing by the filling 11 to which they are secured by keying ridges 12. The mould housing 1 of cast steel to withstand the high pressure used may be solid or built up of sections 2 keyed together. The filling 11 is cast into position.
