Abstract

936,582. Rug cleaning apparatus. S. D. HULSH. March 31, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 11421/60. Class 138 (1). A machine for brushing a rug coated with a moist powdered cleaning agent comprises a housing 24 enclosing a pair of oppositely rotatable brushes 34, Figs. 2 and 5, having intermeshing arms 36 carrying bristles 49, and an electric motor 31 for driving the brushes, and a skirt 26 is loosely supported by the housing 24 to rest upon the rug surface for preventing scattering of the powdered cleaning agent during the operation of the machine. The skirt 26 is coupled to the housing 24 by the engagement of pins 28 thereon in vertical slots 29 in the housing 24, so that the housing may be tilted relatively to the skirt. The inclination of the handle 20 relatively to the axes of the brushes 34 is adjustable, and the handle is secured in its desired position by clamping it to the motor 31 by a screw 70.
