Abstract

935,819. Electro - erosion. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. July 30, 1962 [Aug. 11, 1961], No. 29207/62. Class 83 (4). In a spark erosion apparatus the weight of the electrode 1 and its support 5 is balanced by upwardly-acting fluid pressure, and electromechanical means 9, 10 which have a practically instantaneous response, are provided for maintaining the spark gap constant. The electrode support 5 operates within a cylinder 6 and is sealed thereto by a diaphragm 13 to the underside of which constant pressure liquid or air is supplied through valve 12 from source 11. Gap adjustment is affected by means 9, as described in Specification 800,450, which drives through an electromagnetic clutch 10 a screw 8 threaded into the support 5. Balls 14 are provided to reduce friction and the screw is reversible so that it can be rotated by upward movement of the support 5 under fluid pressure. The workpiece 2 is immersed in a bath 15 containing dielectric liquid 16.
