Abstract

1,066,383. Hydraulic counterbalances for work-tables. CHARLES CHURCHILL & CO. Ltd. Feb. 7, 1966 [March 10, 1965], No. 10222/65. Heading B3B. [Also in Division G3] The greater portion of the weight of a vertically adjustable work-table (1) (Fig. 1, not shown) together with any workpiece mounted thereon is counterbalanced by an hydraulic ram (3) mounted in a cylinder (31), the thrust of the ram being automatically varied to accommodate workpieces of varying weight. A leadscrew (2) is used to adjust the work-table (1) vertically and is supported in an hydraulic pedestal (4) which includes a pad pool (40) of pressure fluid the pressure of which varies with the weight to be supported. A pressure sensing valve (6) is connected in the hydraulic circuit to sense the pressure in the pool (40) and in response to adjust and regulate a control valve (8) which regulates the pressure to the cylinder (31). The arrangement is such that the leadscrew carries only a small though varying proportion of the total weight to be supported.
