A photographic silver halide emulsion or adjacent layer contains, as stabilizer, antifoggant or anti-bronzing agent, a compound of the tautomeric formulµ where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, aralkyl or aryl croups, or R 1 and R 2 or R 3 and R 4 together complete a saturated carbocyclic ring. Examples of compounds are given where R 1 is methyl and R 2 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, or R 1 is hydrogen and R 2 is phenyl, or R 1 and R 2 together complete a cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring, R 3 is methyl and R 4 is methyl or ethyl, or R 3 and R 4 together complete a cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring.
