Abstract

934,592. Making lined boxes. J. BOONE. Jan. 11, 1960 [Jan. 10, 1959], No. 990/60. Class 18. A lined box made from two webs 3, 6, one of cardboard and one of paper, aluminium foil or other substance capable of being heat sealed, is characterised in that the liner is first formed by folding the web 6 into a flattened tube and closing it longitudinally, then the outer portion is formed by folding the web 3 about the tube and closing it longitudinally and the two tubes are cut to the required box unit length, the closure of the paper tube being effected by heat sealing. In Fig. 1, cardboard 3 from a roll 2 may be previously printed and cut and stamped or may be cut and stamped by apparatus 4. The web 3 is passed through adhesive applying means 5. Paper 6 from a roll 7 may be fed to the apparatus 4 and is forwarded to a guide 9 in the form of an arcuate plate narrowing in the direction of advance of the paper. The web 6 may then have a supplementary strip of lac 24, Fig. 5, applied thereto. The web 3 passes to a guide 10 similar to the guide 9. The web 6 is folded about a blade-shaped former 12 and guided by rolls and folders 13. The edges of the paper are preheated by an electrically heated, thermostatically controlled iron 15 and sealed by a disc 16. After the sealing of the paper tube folders 17 and rollers 18 fold the cardboard web 3, about the tube and the edges of the cardboard are stuck by pressing rollers 19 and members 20. The two tubes pass into rotary cutting apparatus 21. The box may also be provided with an outer jacket.
