829,215. Making paper bags &c. LAMSON PARAGON Ltd. Jan. 17, 1958 [Jan. 17, 1957], No. 1831/67. Class 94(2). [Also in Group XV] Paper bags or envelopes b are made from a web of heat sealable material, or a web coated on one side with heat sealable material, which is folded on itself along longitudinal fold lines a1 a<SP>3</SP> to provide overlapping flaps a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>4</SP>, heat is then applied along narrow transverse zones a<SP>5</SP> at longitudinally spaced intervals of the web, and the web is either provided with lines of weakening along the zones a<SP>5</SP>, or is cut along these zones. If lines of weakening are provided in the web to define the bags b, the strip of bags may be wound up on a roll, or folded into a zig-zag pack. The web may be of polyethylene or " Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark), or it may be of paper coated with polyethylene. In apparatus for making the bags &c., a continuous web of polyethylene or other heatsealable moisture-impervious material is unwound from a supply reel and passed over a roller to folding mechanism ; the folded web is then passed over heat-sealing means where it is sealed together at the zones a<SP>5</SP>, and is then passed to cutter or perforator means. One or more ventilation holes may be punched in each bag &c. b.
