933,732. Liquid-pressure engines. MACTAGGART, SCOTT & CO. Ltd., and R. C. RUSSELL. April 12, 1962 [March 24, 1961], No. 10919/61. Class 69 (2). In a reversible, radial cylinder hydraulic motor comprising pistons 4 formed on a hub 3 secured to a drive-shaft 2 and cylinders 5 carrying rollers 7 engaging cam tracks 11, 11a, distributing valve sleeves 12, 12a are located against rotation relative to housing 10 by pins 12b and are pressure balanced against hub 3. Either the shaft 2 or the housing 10 may be rotatable, in the latter case the inlet and exhaust passages being formed in the shaft. In the embodiment shown, shaft 2 is rotatable. Hydraulic fluid is admitted to cylinders 5 via passage 17, annular chamber 16 and passages 14, 8 and 9 and is exhausted via passage 14a, annular chamber 16a and passage 17a. Reversing may be effected by means selectively supplying either of passages 17, 17a. Pressure balancing between sleeves 12, 12a and hub 3 is provided by pockets 15 in the sleeves, located opposite ports 14, 14a and connected to inlet and exhaust passages 17, 17a via passages 19, 19a and annular chambers 18, 18a. The effective surface areas of chambers 16, 16a, 18 and 18a are equal as are those of pockets 15 and ports 14, 14a.
