Abstract

1,012,672. Liquid pressure engines. CHAMBERLAIN INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 21, 1961 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 43889/60. Heading F1A. In a radial cylinder, hydraulic motor, e.g. for the road wheel of a vehicle, with pistons 8 reciprocable by an eccentric 7 on a shaft 3 and in which either the cylinder block or the shaft are rotatable, the inlet and exhaust of pressure liquid is controlled by a sleeve valve 10 rotatable with or stationary with the shaft 3 and having concentric supply and exhaust conduits 11 and 12, and hydraulic balancing means. In the stationary cylinder block embodiment shown, sleeve valve 10 is rotated by shaft 3 through a coupling 21, 22. Conduits 11, 12 communicate with distributor ports 15, 16 which are flared at their outlets such that for five cylinders they alternately communicate with 2 or 3 cylinder supply passages 17. Hydraulic balancing of valve 10 is effected through passages 30, 31 and grooves 28, 28a, 29, 29a. Slippers 32 of pistons 8 have bearing faces of greater area than the cross-sectional area of the pistons and have recesses connected to the working chambers by passages in the pistons. In a rotating cylinder block embodiment, the sleeve valve is secured to the stationary shaft through which pass the inlet and exhaust passages.
