Abstract
932,204. Clamp fastenings. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1959], No. 5250/59. Class 44. Means for fastening two posts 10, 11 together comprises a screw-threaded bolt 12 and a coact- Ýng nut 14, the nut or head of the bolt being formed with a first cam surface, there being also provided on one of the parts a second cam surface adapted to be engaged by and to coact with the first cam surface on tightening the nut and bolt so as to displace the assembled nut and bolt in a lateral direction transverse to the axis of the nut and bolt, the part having the second cam surface also having an elongated slot 13 through which the shank of the bolt can extend, the slot permitting lateral movement of the bolt, and the other part having a laterally extended abutment 19 adapted to engage with the nut or the head of the bolt after the aforesaid lateral movement has been effected, means 17 also being provided to prevent rotation of the nut or bolt when the bolt or nut respectively is rotated. As shown the invention is applied to fastening an end cover 10 to the body 11 of a starter motor or generator and the first cam surfacel 5 is provided on the nut 14 and the second cam surface 16 on end cover 10. The laterally extended abutment 19 is on the body and the elongated slot in the end cover. The means 17 are parallel webs formed integrally with the end cover and projecting from its inner face and these engage the nut. In a modification the head of the bolt is on the inside of the cover and has the cam surface 15.
