Abstract
932,179. Treating tobacco. K. KÍRBER. May 2, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 15854/61. Class 130. Tobacco leaves moistened and warmed in a drum 3 pass to a ripper 6 via chambers 21, 4 from which air is virtually excluded by the vapours from the drum 3, which are passed to the chambers with the leaves and also by a fan 17 which draws from the drum intake end 15 and delivers via opposed side openings 20a of the chamber 21. Spiked belts 11, 26 and a belt 10 forward the leaves which come from a conveyer 2 and are passed via a pneumatic feed 8 to a rib or other separator or screening device. A cell wheel 13, and partition walls in the chamber exit 5, minimize air entry. A fan 29 discharges the vapours to atmosphere from the chamber 4, in which uniform moisture penetration of the leaves may occur. Raking wheels (not shown) may limit the tobacco depth on the belts 11, 26.
