Abstract
A powder mixture for the production of sintered metal articles has the following percentage composition, by weight:- .Ni.5 15 .Mn.0.4 - 1 .Co.0 - 3 .Mo.0.5 - 5 .C (graphite).0.1 - 1 Fe and impurities, the remainder. The components of the powder mixture may be elements, pre-alloys or, in the case of Mn, manganese carbonate. The iron component is preferably - 100 B.S.S. mesh and the remaining components - 300 B.S.S. mesh. The mixture is pressed at 20 tons/inch2 or more, ejected from the mould and sintered at 1200-1400 DEG C. in a non-oxidizing atmosphere for at least 30 minutes. The compact may be coined at up to 60 tons/inch2 and resintered at up to 1400 DEG C.
