Abstract

A sintered ceramic dielectric material suitable for use in capacitors comprises two phases, one of which is formed by ferro-electric tetragonal barium titanate and the other is formed from ferro-electric mixed crystals which contain barium titanate, the Curie point of the mixed crystals being lower than that of the tetragonal barium titanate and the size of the crystals of the individual phases being smaller than 3\m. Substances (not oxides) may be added which are capable of forming ferro-electric mixed crystals with barium titanate and others may be added which restrain the growth of crystals so that the size of the crystals of the individual phases is less than 3m . Suitable materials for addition are stannates, zirconates or titanates, for example MgSnO3, MgZrO3 and MgZrSiO5, and these may be subjected to a preliminary burning (at above 1300 DEG C.) to improve their growth restraining effect. Fe and Fe2O3 may be added to restrain growth during the final sintering.
