Abstract

Bismuth titanate (Bi4Ti3O12) is made by mixing bismuth oxide and titania in the molecular proportions 2Bi2O3:3TiO2 and firing at 1100 DEG C. The bismuth may be in part replaced by yttrium, cerium, lanthanum or other rare earths. Dielectrics may be formed of barium titanate and the above bismuth titanate by firing at 1100-1350 DEG C. Tetragonal barium titanate, fired with the addition of 15% bismuth titanate, is converted to cubic form.
