Abstract

931,263. Laboratory mixers. SCIENTIFIC INDUSTRIES Inc. Dec. 27, 1961, No. 46361/61. Class 86. A laboratory mixer comprises an electric motor 28 rotating a shaft 29 having an eccentric collar 31 and pin 32 which fits into the inner race of a ball-bearing 43, the outer race of which is received in a recess 44 in the bottom of a resilient test tube holder 40. The bottom at least of the holder 40 is thus given an eccentric motion but it is prevented from rotating by a metal band clamp 46, which has an arm 47 restrained by a spring 49 and stops 53, 54. The resilient holder 40, Fig. 10, has sections 57a, 57b, 57c of stepped diameters to accommodate test tubes of different sizes, and protuberances 58a, 58b, 58c to permit free passage of air past the tube on insertion and removal. The top of the test tube may be restrained manually or by a clamp 63.
