Abstract

A cylindrical container which is used to hold blood samples (1a) has a radial flange (3) which is axially offset, and which forms a press fit location for a circular plug (2a). Two axial holes (5, 6) in the end face of the plug are placed near its rim (2b). When the container is closed, the holes in the plug are out of line with the container bore. By rotating the plug, one or both of its holes (5, 6) can be lined up with the container. In this position, an adaptor (40) can be used to directly transfer the blood sample into the container or out of the container.
