Abstract
930,414. Aluminium smelting furnaces. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM-WERK A.G. March 30, 1962 [May 15, 1961], No. 12396/62. Class 41. The pre-baked carbon blocks 2 used as anodes in an electrolytic aluminium furnace are each provided with a central vertical hole which, when the blocks are stacked, are in alignment, thus providing a duct through which gases and dust are withdrawn from the furnace. The top block is provided with a conical fitting 5 attached to a flexible tube 4 of metal or plastic, coupled to an exhaust hood 6. The vertical holes are rendered impervious by either internally coating with cement, alumina, or carbonaceous material, and then baked, and an aluminium tube as lining may be fitted.
