Abstract

929,860. Rotary piston internal-combustion engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. March 12, 1962 [March 16, 1961], No. 9417/62. Class 110 (2). A rotary piston I.C. engine of the trochoidal type having a triangular piston 2, Fig. 1, executing a rotary movement within a bicuspid housing 5 about an eccentric on the output shaft 1 instead of the usual internally toothed and externally toothed drive to maintain the required ratio of the angular velocity of the piston to that of the shaft includes at least one trochoidal track 6 fixed to the piston made in two parts located one behind the other in the axial direction of the piston and pairs of guide rollers 7 with one roller from each pair co-operable with one track part and the other roller of each pair co-operable with the other track part. The surface portions 11, Fig. 3, of one track part contact the associated rollers at high rolling speeds and the surface portions 12 of the other track part contact the associated rollers at lowrolling speeds. Portions 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> on the respective track parts being cut back to be out of contact with the rollers. Bridge portions 13 on both track parts contact the two rollers of each pair simultaneously. Alternatively, the track parts may be on the housing and the guide rollers carried by the piston.
