Abstract

969,297. Valve gear. SULZER FRERES S.A. Jan. 9, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 1078/63. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine valve drive mechanism in which a cam 8 moves valve 1 by means of a roller 9 and at least one other transmission element, the roller is adjustable transversely to the cam axis along a path determined by a substantially arcuate track formed on the transmission element, the centre of the arc being at or near the cam axis when the valve is closed. Roller 9 is rotatably mounted on shaft 10 secured in the forked end of a rod 11 which is adjustable by an eccentric 12. Rollers 13, bearing against tracks 6, are mounted on both sides of roller 9 and the tappet 5 is secured against rotation by projections 14 which engage the outer surfaces 15 of tracks 6. In modifications variations in valve clearance are provided by charging the circular arc shape of tracks 6 or by off-setting the arc centre Z from the cam-shaft axis.
