Abstract

929,767. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. Jan. 9, 1962, No. 751/62. Addition to 894.762. Class 8(2). A liquefied gas e.g., methane is stored in a basin 3, scooped out of the earth's surface and having its side or sides lined with concrete 2 and covered by a thermally insulated roof 6 provided with vent, filling and emptying ducts (not shown); the earth formation 4 surrounding the basin 3 being impregnated with a liquid e.g., oil or water which freezes at the storage temperature and thus prevents leakage of the stored liquefied gas. The roof insulation 7 may comprise perlite or fibre glass and the earth at the bottom of the basin may be covered by a layer of thin aluminium or by a layer of thermal insulation such as fibre glass, foamed polystyrene or polyurethane.
