Abstract
907,860. Storing liquefied gas. CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO. April 5, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 12146/61. Class 8(2) A storage installation for liquefied gas L comprises an inner storage vessel 10 disposed within and spaced from an outer housing 14, the inner vessel being mounted on a lightweight concrete foundation 18 having a plurality of circular or polygonal cross-sectioned cavities 19 extending through the thickness thereof. The space 21 between the vessel 10 and the housing 14, and the cavities 19, are filled with granular or fibrous insulating material 22, e.g. expanded perlite. The concrete has a density of between 5 and 40 pounds per cubic foot and may comprise light-weight aggregates or be formed by aeration. The foundation 18 is provided with a concrete cap 20. The housing 14 rests upon a prepared foundation 23 having conduits 24 extending therethrough, hot water, for example, being circulated through the conduits 24 to prevent the foundation 23 from freezing.
