Abstract

1370349 Thermal insulation for cryogenic containers MARTIN MARIETTA CORP 13 Oct 1971 [16 Oct 1970] 47604/71 Heading F4P In a thermal insulation construction 14, Fig. 1, lining the interior of a cold liquefied gas, e.g. natural gas storage container wall 12 and comprising a plurality of discrete cells 16 each having a cover 18 at their liquid contacting side apertured at 20 for providing a stable gas-liquid interface between the liquid and gas within the cell at least some of the cell walls are formed non-planar to allow for thermal contraction. Thus the cells 16 are formed of sinusoidal strips stuck together and the corners 18 are dished and are stiffened by ribs 36 which extend round each aperture 20. The cells may be filled with rock wool or polystyrene chips.
