A plastics container 1 has a double-walled bottom comprising an upper part 2 which is integral with the container wall, and a separate lower part 3, the sides of the two parts which face each other being formed with corrugations or the like and in some embodiments having additional members inserted between the two parts for reinforcing purposes. In one embodiment complementary corrugations are formed and a layer of metal or hardened plastics 4 is inserted therebetween. Dowels 6 connect the parts 2, 3 and 4. Alternatively, locking projections 9 on the troughs of the corrugated surfaces engage corresponding recesses in the peaks and gluing or welding further secures the two parts of the bottom together. In another embodiment the corrugations of one surface cross those of the other and the interspaces so formed may be filled with insulating material. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) ribs on the part 2 engage grooves in the part 3 and the spaces formed contain filling material. In yet another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), wave-shaped projections on the two parts fit into the compartments of a grid inserted therebetween. The lower part of the bottom may be formed as a trough or the walls of the container may extend below the upper part of the bottom and the lower part 3 is wedged in the annular space so formed, as in Fig. 1.
