Abstract

929,684. Washing-machines. CLAMAR S.A. Feb. 13, 1961 [Oct. 4, 1960], No. 5213/61. Addition to 912,439. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XXIV] A driving device for a washing-machine in which the drum is automatically alternately rotated in opposite directions comprises two coaxial gear-wheels 6, 20 driven in opposite directions, between which is disposed a slidable collar 15 which can be connected through dogclutches to either of the wheels 6, 20, the collar 15 sliding on a key 32 on a sleeve 17, which is mounted loose on a driving-shaft 1, the sleeve 17 driving a sleeve 25 through a dog clutch 24, 36 to rotate the drum (not shown). As the driving-shaft 1 rotates a pinion 2 mounted thereon causes rotation of a gear-wheel and pinion 3, 4 mounted on a shaft 5. The pinion 4 meshes with the gear-wheel 6 and rotates it in the same direction as the shaft 1 but at reduced speed. The pinion 4 also engages with a pinion 4a which serves to rotate the gear-whesl 20 in the opposite direction to the shaft 1. The gears 6, 20 are fitted with dogs 31, 30, respectively, which engage with dogs 16 on the collar 15. As the collar 15 is moved alternately between the position shown in Fig. 1 and a position where it is driven by the wheel 20 it is alternately rotated in opposite directions. The movement of the collar 15 is effected by a fork 35 fitted with prongs 34 which engage in a groove 33 in the collar, the fork 35 being oscillated about a pivot 28 by a crank on the shaft of a gear-wheel 9. The gear-wheel 9 is rotated by the shaft 1 through gears 7, 8 and a worm 10. The sleeve 25 carries a pulley and a belt 37 to drive the drum of the machine, and is slidable on the shaft 1 so that it can engage directly with the shaft 1 by means of a clutch 40 to drive the drum at a higher speed in one direction only, the movement of the sleeve 25 being effected by manual rotation of a crank 22 acting on a fork 21 pivoted at 29.
