Abstract
928,956. Cigars and cigar-making machinery. GENERAL CIGAR CO. Inc. July 8, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 23477/59. Class 130. A head end reinforcing strip 13 is placed under (Fig. 1) or over (Fig. 2) a binder 12 on a rolling apron 10 so as to be wound in with the binder on bunch making. Suction apertures 11 in the apron 10 retain the binder 12, with additional apertures 23 (Fig. 2 only) for the strip 13. In Fig. 1 the strip 13 has glue patches 19, 20; the binder in Fig. 2 has an adhesive patch 25, formed by a dab of water where the binder is one cut from a tobacco sheet made of finelydivided tobacco and a water-soluble adhesive, e.g. methyl cellulose, as in U.S.A. Specification 2,592,553. The strip 13 may be of paper, cork, regenerated cellulose, plastic film, or a reconstituted tobacco sheet as in U.S.A. Specification 2,797,689 or containing methyl cellulose and melamine resin. The completed bunch is shaped in a crimper which trims it at points corresponding to the lines 15, 16. The strip 13 preferably just laps itself, though reference is made to two or more full layers thereof. Reference is made to the prior use of cigar mouthpieces exposed or covered by the wrapper, and of cigar heads wrapped or coated on the outside with cellulose nitrate or acetate, regenerated cellulose, paper or cork.
