Abstract

928,813. Percussive tools. A. R. HENRY. May 30, 1960 [July 6, 1959], No. 19055/60. Class 124. A percussive tool comprises a housing, a tubular barrel, a striker slidable in the barrel, a drive member comprising a crank having a crank-pin rotatable at right-angles to the centre line of the barrel, and a pair of opposed toggles each comprising an upper and a lower link joined at their contiguous ends, the opposite ends of the lower links being pivoted to the striker, the opposite ends of the upper links being connected by means pivotally connected to the crank-pin and a compression spring arranged between the upper links. As shown, a housing 2 has a barrel 20 extending therefrom and having a striker 30 sliding therein. The striker is pivoted to the ends of the lower links 102 which are pivoted at 104 to the free ends of a pair of upper links 96, the other ends of which are pivotally connected to a pin 78 of a crank 70. A spring 112 is connected between the links 96. In operation the inertia of the striker moves the links 102 out of the neutral position shown and causes the spring 112 to be compressed, and on the downward movement of the striker the force of the spring is added to the blow.
