Abstract

928,140. Generating arrangements. LONDON & OVERSEAS FREIGHTERS Ltd., and E. A. MACKENZIE. Dec. 15, 1961 [Feb. 15, 1961], No. 4718/61. Class 38 (4). A ship's generating system may have one or a plurality of diesel engines 10 each coupled to a propeller shaft 12 and a generator 16, the generator-feeding a motor 18 coupled to a main steam turbo alternator set 21, 22, the turbine of which may be supplied with steam from an exhaust heat boiler and which alternatively or additionally drives the main generator 21. The boiler may be provided with an auxiliary means of firing such as oil. An exciter set 26, 29, 31, fed from the main generator output and fitted with an automatic voltage regulator 33 may be provided together with an automatic current controller 36 to give constant power output of the motors. An auxiliary dieselelectric generator (not shown) may be power for the exciter set on starting up.
