Abstract
927,804. Starting steam turbines. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. July 20, 1960, No. 25300/60. Class 110 (3). A steam turbine rotor turning device comprises a blade ring of the steamturbine itself, which serves as a turning turbine, and is driven by condensate at an elevated pressure. A manifold 22, Fig. 1, communicates with a plurality of nozzles 13 and condensate supplied to the nozzles from the manifold is injected into the end stage 24. Alternatively, an annular housing in the proximity of the blade roots is provided with nozzles 13 to inject condensate substantially at the level of the roots of the blades 15 in the opposite direction to the flow of steam. In an extraction turbine, the annular housing for the condensate communicates with the tips of some of the guide vanes 14. These vanes are hollow and have trailing edges formed as nozzles, Fig. 3. After passing through the rotor blades, the condensate is withdrawn to the condenser or to the feed-water heaters of the plant. The condensate is derived from a branch of the condensate pressure line and the turbine speed can be controlled either manually or automatically by a throttle valve.
