Abstract

1,173,930. Steamturbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec.6, 1968 [Dec. 8, 1967], No.56041/67. Heading F1T. In a steam turbine the blade tips of at least the penultimate low-pressure stage rotor blades 1 protrude into an annular cavity 2 in the cylinder casing 3 which collects condensation water droplets thrown off from the blades 1. The wall 4 of the cavity 2 downstream of the blades 1 curves towards the blades and has a lip 5 to prevent collected water from re-entering the main steam flow. The water is drawn off through a passage 6 to a region of lower pressure, such as a feedwater heater. The construction may be combined with the condensation water collecting arrangement described in Specification 56040/67 wherein slots and passages are provided in the turbine guide vanes.
