Abstract

927,704. Rotary engines and pumps. N.S.U. MOTERENWERKE A.G., and WENKEL G.m.b.H. April 22, 1960 [April 23, 1959], No. 14178/60. Class 110 (2). A rotor of arched-triangular shape for a rotary I.C. engine or pump of the n and w+1 lobe type consists of two steel or light metal alloy portions 40, 60, Fig. 2, which are interconnected as by welding or brazing at 82, 84. The portion 40 is formed integral with a ring gear 38 and the welded joint 82 may be reinforced by an annular insert (see Fig. 4, not shown). In a modification, the opposed portions are made identical and jointly encircle the hub of the ring gear, a reinforcing insert again being employed, if so desired (see Figs. 3 and 5, respectively, not shown). An additional insert 96 may be positioned at each of the apices of the rotor (see Fig. 10, and Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). Coolant is circulated to the chamber 80 within the rotor through ports 44<SP>1</SP>. Grooves such as 34, 36 are provided in the rotor for the reception of thin metal sealing strips.
