Abstract

920,624. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Dec. 29, 1961 [Feb. 21, 1961], No. 6392/61. Class 8(1). The cell rotor walls 37, Fig 12, of a pressure exchanger extend radially between inner and outer cylinders 30, 41 and have extensions 38, 39 extending towards either of the two adjacent intercell walls whereby the walls 37 are secured to the inner and outer cylinders e.g., by spot welding at 40, 42. The walls may have a cross-section as shown in Figs. 13, 14 and when all but the last wall has been assembled the said last wall has its outer extension 44 welded thereto in situ at 43. The method of assembly is to mount the inner cylinder 30 with its ends abutting shoulders 27, Fig. 2, provided by bones 25, 26 in end locating plates 21, 22 secured together by four bolts 23. The cell walls are then slid down radial grooves 28, Fig. 3, cut in opposed faces of plates 21, 22; each wall 37 having a locating tongue 35, Fig. 3, engaging a groove 28 thereby allowing the inner extension 38 to abut the surface of the inner cylinder. The end plates 21, 22 are then removed and the outer cylinder is welded to the outer extensions 39 of the walls 37.
