Abstract

1,058,577. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. July 29, 1965 [July 30, 1964], No.30211/64. Heading F1N. A pressure exchanger cell ring, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a hub (1) and a shroud (2) interconnected by a plurality of cell walls (3) each provided with an axially extending expansion point in the form of e.g. a corrugation (6) positioned at or adjacent to a point of contraflexure which occurs due to unequal pressure loading between adjacent cells. The expansion points allow relative thermal expansion between the cell walls, the shroud, and the hub. The ends of the cell walls (3) may be provided with strengthening members and are welded or brazed to the shroud (2) and hub (1). In an alternative construction, Fig. 3 (not shown), the walls (3) may be fabricated from two L-shaped portions (12, 13) and a central U-shaped portion (14), the contacting limbs of two adjacent portions being welded together at the points of contraflexure. In a further construction two adjacent walls are fabricated together from two U-shaped portions and a central box shaped section.
