927,135. Hydraulic couplings and converters. J. M. VOITH G.m.b.H. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2414/61. Class 69 (2). A turbo transmitter comprises an annular slide 5, Fig. 1, insertable axially into the working circuit of the transmitter, the slide being guided externally of the working circuit and by a guide 12 provided in the working circuit itself. In a torque converter having an impeller 1, runner 2 and reactor 4, the slide 5 is guided on a surface 6 in the casing 3 and by the edges 12 of the reactor blades 4, and is movable by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure supplied through a pipe 7. A seal 14 is provided between the inner surface of the slide and the housing. In another embodiment, the slide is movable from a recess within the annular core space 20. In an hydraulic coupling, the impeller blades 15a are formed with edges 21, 22 and the slide 17 is guided by surface 18 in the casing and the edges 21. A seal 24 is provided to close a gap 23. In order that the slides may move without tilting or jamming, the fluid supply for moving the slides passes through two passages of approximately the same length leading from a manifold to diametricallyopposed points on the slides.
