Abstract

926,945. Steam irons. LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK. Nov. 20, 1961 [Nov. 30, I960], No. 41385/61. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A steam iron comprises a steam generating vessel 58 mounted in poor heat transfer relationship with a sole plate 10, a water reservoir 18 having a port communicating with the vessel 58, a valve 86 in the port, electric heating elements 20, 74 embedded in the sole plate 10 and steam generating vessel 58 respectively, and switches 24, 93 controlling the energization of the heating elements 20, 74, respectively. A knob 154 controls the valve 86, through a cam 152, a pushrod 150, and a spring lever 136 fixed at one end 137 and urged upwardly by a spring 140. A thermostatic switch 24 controls the sole plate temperature as determined by a control knob 49. A second thermostatic switch 93 controls the temperature of the steam generating vessel 58. The thermostatic switches 24, 93 are interconnected by means 106, 108 so that when control knob 49 is in the " off " position both heating elements 20 and 47 are de-energized.
