Abstract

565,603. Electric water heaters. JOHNSON & PHILLIPS, Ltd., and SANDERS, J. T. March 16, 1943, No. 4270. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XIV] An electric water heater comprises a rectangular casing 1 containing an electrically-heated hot water tank 2 having a detachable top 3 which constitutes a table, or if mounted in an inclined position, a draining board 3a. The water is heated by immersion heaters 5, 6, the upper heater 5 for normal use to heat only the upper portion of the water. When larger quantities of water are required, the lower heater 6 is switched on. Both heaters may be thermostatically controlled, and the lower heater may have a pilot lamp in its circuit. An insulating lining 9 and packing 1a are provided within the casing 1. The top 3 comprises a dished plate secured by means of pins 17 engaging in slots in brackets 18 carried by the casing, and threaded studs 14 carried by the casing and projecting through holes in a downwardlydirected strip 12 carried by the top 3. In an alternative form, a double circuit vertical immersion heater may be used. A towel rail may be fitted on either side of the unit, heated electrically or by hot water.
