Abstract
594,592. Water heaters. KEELING, F., KEELING, R. E., and PITT, W. March 9, 1945, No. 5990. [Class 64 (i)] [Also in Groups XI and XXXVII] An electric water heater is fitted with one or more nozzles such as 31 through which water is supplied to the water heating chamber 12, the bore of the nozzle or nozzles corresponding to the wattage of the heating element or elements 39 so that when hot water is drawn off from the heating chamber the supply of cold water through the nozzle or nozzles prevents any substantial drop in the temperature. Exchangeable nozzles of the same external dimensions but of different bores may be provided to fit in the same aperture, or a number of nozzles of different bores may be provided formed in a rotatable disc so that the desired nozzle may register with the aperture. The nozzle or nozzles are fitted in an aperture or apertures in a tray 29, the water supply to which is controlled by a valve operated by a lever and float 28 in the tray. A separate tray, arranged within the tray 29, may be provided for the float and lever. The float may also operate a mercury switch to cut off the heating current on failure of the water supply. The heating elements 39 have asbestos pads to conserve heat, or have an associated water jacket connected by pipes to the chamber 12 and tray 29. Two studs 35 and a strip 36 enable the heater to be removably mounted on a wall. The casing has detachable top and bottom covers 20, 21, held in position by nuts 22, 51 engaging central screws. According to the Provisional Specification, a perforated plate with pressed up holes with ridges round their upper ends to form a lime trap is provided in the heating chamber just below the top plate, above which the float chamber is provided. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 152,721 [Class 64 (i)], 360,655, [Group XI], 362,665, 437,990 and 460,339.
