[Also in Group XXXVI] The position of a ferromagnetic member moved by a D.C.-operated coil is determined by including the coil in an A.C. bridge circuit and detecting the change in coil impedance as the member moves into it. As shown, the position of the armature 11 controlled by a solenoid 12 energized from a D.C. supply 13 is detected by the variation of balance of the A.C. bridge circuit 17. The unbalance voltage is amplified by a magnetic amplifier 23, arranged to energize lamp-operating relay 24 when the armature is in the position shown and to energize relay 25 when the armature is within the solenoid 12. A third relay may be provided to indicate faulty operation of the system.
