Abstract
866,311. Electric selective signalling systems. PATENT BUTTON CO. Feb. 25, 1958 [Feb. 25, 1957], No. 6097/58. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] An electrical indicating device comprises a cylindrical indicating member 16, Fig. 3, keyed to a permanent magnet 46, an annular arrangement of " potted " coils 66 adapted to be positioned between the permanent magnet and the wall of the cylindrical indicating-member 16, a non-magnetic cylinder 71 having embedded therein a number of magnetizable strips 73 and being adapted to be press-fitted into the potted coils 66, and a housing 14 having a bevelled window 15 therein. In operation the potted coils are wired as in Fig. 5 and a potential is applied across a selected pair of diametrically opposite junctions. This causes a magnetic field B, Fig. 5, to be produced, along which the magnet 46, Fig. 3, aligns itself causing the positioning of the corresponding character in the manner shown in Fig. 6B. The potential applied to the coils is then removed whereupon the permanent magnet aligns itself with the nearest of the magnetizable insets 73, Fig. 3, in the cylinder 71, which is arranged to correctly position the selected character in the window 15, as shown in Fig. 7B.
