Abstract

1360953 Magnetic holding devices M CARDONE A GRANDINI and B ZARAMELLA [trading as MAGNETO TECNICA DI CARDONE MICHELE & C Snc] 23 June 1972 29548/72 Heading H1P A magnetic anchoring device for use in the graphic arts comprises a high permeability ferromagnetic base 10 in which parallel regularly spaced slots 11 of rectangular cross-section are formed separated by walls 12 normal to the plane of the base (Figs. 1, 2, 4). Non magnetic, e.g. aluminium spacers are placed in the bottom of each slot; into which are inserted permanent magnetic units (Fig. 5, not shown) each having an intermediate high permeability core flanked by two magnetic elements transversely magnetized with like poles at their exposed faces. The faces of pole-pieces 14 and the intervening walls 12 are flush, and these of the magnetic elements are depressed to leave airgaps, and at the work surface 18, poles 12 of similar polarities and intervening poles 14 of opposed but similar polarities are exposed in parallel. The assembly is unified by application of epoxy resin to the contacting surfaces and airgaps and curing; after which the surfaces of the device are ground plane. The magnetic elements may be of oriented or non oriented ceramic-plastic magnet material. The inserted magnet units may comprise a symmetrical two part polepiece flanked by the magnetic elements (Fig. 6, not shown), and the ferromagnetic base may be cylindrical with radial slots for the permanent magnet units (Fig. 7, not shown).
