Abstract

926,841. Sink-float separation. NORTONSTIVIDALE Ltd. Nov. 30, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 39018/58. Class 117. An apparatus for the sink-float separation of solid materials into fractions comprises an annular vessel decreasing downwards in radial width in which the separation is carried out and which has one or more bottom outlets for the sink fraction, a central vertical shaft, and means carried by the shaft for moving the sink fraction around the bottom of the vessel to the outlet(s). As shown, vessel 1 is delimited by cylindrical outer wall 2 and frusto-conical inner wall 3 and contains the separating medium. Paddles 33, 34 are rotated by shaft 9 which is driven by motor 13, and thus move the sinks, derived from raw material fed to a central area of the vessel from conveyer 66, to outlet 53. The sinks fall from said outlet into buckets 55 of elevator 56 and are discharged into shoot 62. Floats are discharged over a weir (not shown). In modifications, (a) the paddles are replaced by a rotary ring co-operating with stationary ploughs, (b) the floats are removed by lifters instead of a weir, and (c) an intermediate outlet is provided in the wall of the vessel for the removal of a middle fraction.
