926,659. Valves. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 19, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 12334/61. Class 135. A thermally-actuated valve comprises a tube a formed with at least one port a<SP>5</SP> in the path of fluid flow, the opening of the port being controlled by a piston e made from the same material as the tube. A stem f of different coefficient of expansion from the tube is connected at one end to the piston and at the other end to the tube. The tube is also formed with ports a<SP>6</SP> whereby the fluid flowing through the valve can be in intimate contact with the stem f and thus the piston e is adjusted axially to vary the flow in response to the temperature of the flowing fluid. The stem preferably carries a screwed part f<SP>2</SP> whereby the initial setting of the valve may be adjusted.
