Abstract
925,941. Rotary engines. BORSIG A.G., and WANKEL G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 27027/60. Class 110 (2). In a rotary engine of the n and n+1 lobe kind, the lobes for the external piston are formed as separate segments 4, Fig. 2, and inserted in abutting relationship in the jacket 1 under a high degree of pressure so that on expansion of the jacket when the engine is running at high speed this pressure is never completely released. The lobes which are also secured to the end-plate of the jacket by bolts are made as thin-walled segments with peripheral and radial strengthening webs 6, 7. The working surfaces of the lobes are ground by means of profile grinding discs 10, Fig. 4. For small lobes one grinding disc will suffice, for exceptionally large lobes three discs may be necessary.
