Abstract
925,610. Valves. E. NISKANEN, and J. SOILA. July 23, 1959, No. 25354/59. Class 135. A rotary plug valve having a conical valve plug 5, Fig. 1, which may be wedged into or eased out of the conical bore in the valve body 3 after or prior to the rotation of the plug by a handle 6 to open and close the valve, comprises a nut 10 internally threaded to engage a spigot 7 on the plug and externally threaded to engage a second nut 8 fitted with a handle 12 and locked to the first nut by a grub screw 11. A flange 14 on the nut 10 and the face 13 on the nut 8 co-operate with opposite faces of an inwardly-directed flange 15 on the valve body to permit limited longitudinal movement of the nuts with respect to the body on rotation of the handle 12. On engagement of either the flange 14 or the face 13 by the flange 15 longitudinal movement of the plug 5 takes place on further rotation of the handle 12. In a modification, the nuts 8a, 9a, Fig. 2, both engage the spigot 7a and adjacent faces of the nuts are formed with teeth 16 to prevent relative movement between the two nuts.
