925,511. Internal shoe-drum brakes. GIRLING Ltd. April 25, 1960 [Jan. 24, 1959], No. 2684/59. Class 103 (1). In an hydraulically-actuated internal shoedrum brake, a piston 12 of an hydraulic cylinder 10 is in screw-threaded engagement with a tappet 15 which engages an adjacent shoe 16 and which can be moved axially by rotation of the piston 12; the piston being rotatable by a worm 20 which is itself mounted for rotation by a manually-rotatable spindle 24 passing through the back plate 11 of the brake. The brake illustrated is of the dual type in which an hydraulic two-leading shoe brake having hydraulic actuating cylinders between the shoe at each end operates within the same drum as a mechanical brake. A spring-loaded detent device 26, 28 is provided to prevent accidental rotation of-the spindle 24.
