Abstract

[Also in Groups V and XXXII] In a die-casting machine of the type in which the rate of movement of a pneumaticallyoperated piston 10 is regulated by an hydraulic device 14, a valve 20 controls the extraction of air by a vacuum pump 21 from the die cavity 2 formed between stationary and movable mould halves 3, 4, respectively, and is actuated through a spring-loaded rod 18 by an arm 17 rigidly attached to the piston and carrying a slide 16 working in a cam slot in an arm 15 pivoted to a pneumatic cylinder 13. Slide 16 is connected by rod 27 to a valve 25 and during a first part of the downstroke ports 11 are closed and valve 25 is opened and cavity 2 connected through valve 22 with pump 21. When the molten metal reaches nozzle 12, valve 20 is closed and the piston 10 is lowered at a greater speed. The return movement of the piston is controlled by a dash-pot 28 associated with a release valve 29. Specifications 710,679, 754,374 and 843,056 are referred to.
