Abstract

875,311. Moulds. MAHLE-WERK G.m.b.H. May 29, 1959 [June 11, 1958], No. 18365/59, Class 83 (1). A pressure die-casting mould comprises a metal injection plunger piston movable in a metal inlet channel which leads to the die cavity and a constriction in the channel close to said cavity and means for adjusting the constriction so as to vary the size of the channel. In one embodiment the insert 5 is moved bv a differential piston 7 acted upon by pressure fluid controlled by valves 9, 10 themselves controlled by stops 17, 18 on the injection plunger 6. At the beginning of the operation the parts are in the positions shown and pressure fluid holds the slide 5 downward to make the gate of small cross-section. As the injection plunger moves upwards on its injection stroke valve 10 opens to supply pressure medium beneath the piston 7 so that it moves upwards and the cross-section of the gate is increased. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the slide is controlled by hydraulic pistons in accordance with a change of pressure on the injection plunger during the injection.
