In a torque measuring system, a driven shaft 11 is coupled to a driving pulley 12 by an elastically yielding coupling, and rotary switch members constituted by brushes 24, 26 and commutators 23, 22 secured to shaft and pulley respectively so form part of an electrical circuit that there are produced by the switch members pulse trains, the phase difference between which is indicated and represents the torque. Pulley 12 drives shaft 11 via a spring 19 or a leaf spring, Fig. 3 (not shown). Circuit arrangements.-As shown in Fig. 5a, the commutators are in series and, as a result, the meter M receives pulses of which the mark/ space ratio varies according to the torque. In a modification, Fig. 6a (not shown), the commutators in parallel with each other are shunted across the meter. In another modification, Fig. 4a, the maximum deflection of the meter occurs when the commutators are a whole step out of phase. Specification 907,658 is referred to.
