Abstract

925,064. Automatic circuit - breakers. FEDERAL PACIFIC ELECTRIC CO. May 1, 1961, No. 15691/61. Class 38 (5). In a circuit-breaker such as that of Specification 739,620, the bi-metallic element 35 is divided longitudinally into three series-connected lengths 36, 42, 44, the centre length 36 being riveted to the contact-carrying member 22 at one end and the other end latching an actuator 30. The terminal end of the length 44 is connected to a conducting braid 46 which is connected to a terminal of the circuit-breaker. The heat produced by the current in the lengths 42, 44 reduce the heat dissipation from the centre " active " length 36 of the bi-metallic element and permit the use of a relatively heavy bi-metallic element in a low-rated circuit-breaker.
