Abstract

1,097,229. Automatic circuit-breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 15, 1966 [Aug. 5, 1965], No. 26670/66. Heading H2B. A multiple circuit-breaker assembly, with a common trip bar 44 interconnecting latch actuating members 40, or (40A), (40B), of at least two circuit-breakers, (Figs. 3-5, not shown), has a releasable contact-actuating member 14 latched by the latch member 24 of each circuit-breaker, and is characterized by each latch member 24 having a rigid portion and a resilient portion (45), (Figs. 2, 5, not shown), which latter portion (45) is movable by the latch actuating member 40 in the releasing direction with respect to the rigid portion, thereby allowing for manufacturing tolerances and ensuring tripping of both circuit-breakers by sufficient movement of the connected latch actuating members 40 or (40A), (40B). Portion 27 of member 24 latches end 28 of member 14, or a bent portion (145A) of resilient portion (145) may latch the end of releasable member (114), (Figs. 6-8, not shown). Latch member 24 is an armature attracted by a field piece 37 on a bimetallic strip 30, providing for electromagnetic and thermal tripping. The handle 11 is trip-free and resets the over-centre mechanism of the circuit breaker, which includes a tension spring 20.
