Abstract

1431316 Automatic circuit-breakers WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 30 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 36223/73 Heading H1N A circuit-breaker adapted to be operatively joined to another circuit-breaker such that the tripping of one circuit-breaker causes simultaneous tripping of the other, comprises a releasable member 67 movable to effect contact opening operation of the mechanism 27, overload responsive means 29 including a latch 95 for the releasable member 67, and an insulating cam 121 adapted to be coupled to a like cam in the other circuit-breaker to form a common trip bar, the cam 121 including an actuation portion 135 acted upon by a projection 117 of the releasable member 67 and a flexible finger 137 to act on the latch 95 to disengage the latch. The cam may also have a flexible support finger 139 which co-operates with a portion 140 of the member 67 when it is latched to prevent unwanted tripping due to vibration. The cam may be of thermoplastic material, the finger 137 being flexible to avoid overstressing the overload responsive means and the finger 139 being flexible so as not to unduly impede the tripping movement of the cam when turned by the member 67. The overload responsive means comprises a bimetallic strip 77 carrying a magnetic yoke 105 and an armature 95 which acts as the latch. The circuit-breaker is of the kind having a tension spring 71 which is moved over-centre to operate the contacts 21, 23.
